Go south, turn left... (2)

Don’t deviate from the path. Take one of eleven metro lines in the direction of Coyoacán.  It will take you to The Blue House. The house of Frida Magdalena Kahlo which witnessed her marriage with Diego Rivera and love affairs with Trotsky, among others.

Every station is represented by a picture. For this village stands a coyote as its name in Aztecan means “a place of coyotes”.

Coyoacán was once the first capital of New Spain. It kept its original layouts and tiny plazas.

Collectivos, shoeshiners, fruit, trees, vivid colors… Like if the most charming corners of Mexico City were moved to narrow streets. Coyoacan.

But not the village itself was the reason why we went there. It was only for one house. The Blue House, “La Casa Azul”. Here Magdalena Frida Kahlo was born and she spent the last thirteen years of her life. The house contains works of Kahlo and other artists, including Diego Rivera, her husband in 1929–1939... and 1940–1954. Yes, they remarried after the divorce. They both had irritable temperaments which led to numerous love affairs, including Frida's bisexual relations. Diego tolerated the latter once but it was hard to put blind eye on her male lovers.

There is also a room where the couple hosted Leon Trotsky with his wife. He was granted asylum in Mexico due to the their effort. He had to move out to neighboring house after falling out with Diego. Due to an affair with Frida.

Trotsky's Museum is located in the vicinity. Even though his house looks like a fortress, Stalin's man managed to gain entry and kill him. With an ice pick.
